Commission terms

Short, plain and the same terms I will repeat to you in writing when we agree a piece.

Prices and postage

A4 pieces are £35 to £45 and A3 pieces are £55 to £65, with the exact figure depending on your photograph, the composition and how much is in the frame. A2 and multi-pet sets are quoted on request. Postage and packaging is £10 and is always charged separately, never absorbed into the price. Everything is posted Royal Mail Tracked 48 within the United Kingdom.

Payment

A 50% deposit by bank transfer books your slot and starts the work. The balance is due once you have seen and approved the photograph of the finished piece, and before it is packed and posted. Bank details are sent to you privately once a commission is agreed. They are never published on this site.

Timing

Turnaround is 2 to 3 weeks from the day your deposit clears. If anything is going to run late I will tell you before the date rather than after it.

Revisions

One round of minor adjustments is included, and is best used at the approval stage. The style is expressive and colour led rather than photo-realistic, and that is the point of it, so requests to make a piece more literal fall outside a minor adjustment. If you are unsure whether the style is right for you, ask for the line drawing and colour plan before the deposit.

Cancellation

Because each piece is made to order for one specific animal, commissions are bespoke and personalised goods and are exempt from the 14 day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If you cancel before I have started, the deposit is returned in full. Once work has begun the deposit covers time already spent and is not refundable. Faulty or damaged goods are covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 as normal, so if something arrives damaged, tell me and I will put it right.

What you receive

A one-off worked surface, unframed, on printed 300gsm matt card. It is layered in oil pastel, coloured pencil, paint pen and mixed media, with white highlights and gold worked in at the end. It is packed flat with a tissue paper sheet across the surface, sandwiched between rigid cardboard and wrapped nicely, along with a personalised note or gift card, stickers and a business card. The separate reference sketch is included if you ask for it.

Looking after it

Oil pastel never fully hardens. Please do not touch the surface, and frame the piece behind glass. Kept that way it will last indefinitely.

Copyright and images

Beth Jenkins retains copyright in the artwork. You own the physical piece and can display it, keep it and give it as a gift. Reproducing it for commercial sale is not included. I will only show your finished piece or your reference photograph publicly if you have agreed to it, and I will take anything down on request.

Process

Every commission begins with your photograph, which is developed into a composition reference using digital tools including image generation and engineering, Photoshop and manual editing. That reference is printed and the printed sheet becomes the physical surface the piece is worked into by hand over many hours. The reference stage is a starting point, not the finished piece, and you can ask to see it.
